50 Shades Of Embarrassment – All Your Secret Desires Hacked

“Man is not what he thinks he is, he is what he hides.”
André Malraux – How does a guy born in 1901 know so much about internet privacy?

Here Is The Headline – I Am Sure Most People Won’t Appreciate It, But For Some, GASP!

50 Shades Of Embarrassment – All Your Secret Desires Hacked

click2houston.com, is reporting that the personal information from as many as four million members of AdultFriendFinder.com may have been stolen. In case you haven’t yet shared those innermost fantasies yet, you should know that AdultFriendFinder, offers the ability to “Hookup, Find Sex or Meet Someone Hot Now,” as well as share video cams and chat online.

A security specialist discovered the trove of data online and wrote about her findings, including this image on sexual preferences.

Hacked Data

She goes on to say, “In spreadsheet #1, I found Fakeuser2@###.com (not his real user account) and he is a 62-year-old Hispanic male from North Brunswick, NJ who is an advertiser in real life, and has a preference for the subporno forum. By Googling his handle I was able to associate his real name and to locate the social media pages that he manages.

Also in spreadsheet #1 I located a user who spends a lot of money in the BDSM forum. He is a 40-year-old, white male from a small community in Illinois (population: 4,206), and is self-employed in some type of welding business. He will become anybody’s slave and he also lied about his age on the adult site, and depicts himself as a 29-year-old male. Got a leash?”

Yes, some people even like imitating some of what they read in the 50 Shades books…

Innermost Secrets

Remember When?

Gosh, I remember when a ‘racy’ personal ad was, “Long walks on the beach and gazing into each other eyes.”

Long Walk On The Beach

You Are Not Alone

AdultFriendFinder.com claims to have 600 million-plus members across their 40,000 sites.

AdultFriendFinder.com said personal information from as many as four million members may have been stolen. That includes sexual preference, marital status and other personal data, like dates of birth and email addresses. The site boasts 64 million members, but it’s not known which of those had their information stolen.

“Everyone wants to be appreciated, so if you appreciate someone, don’t keep it a secret.”
Mary Kay Ash – Who knew cosmetics could be so insightful?

Hey! You Always Wanted To Be In The ‘1%’ Well, Now You Are!

Let’s do some math (I know, I know, you hate math – not to worry, I will do the calculations).

According to Census Bureau there are over 320,931,000 people in the US. Of  course, not everyone is really counted, so there may be a few more folks in the country.

If we take the 4,000,000 hacked members divided by the number of people in the US 320,931,000, we get
4,000,000/320,931,000 = 0.012

Performing another bit of math on the answer – 0.012 – and converting that to a percentage, you find that you are in the 1.2% club. Congrats! You are now a 1 percenter!

CNN On The Data Breach

CNN reports the following: The information Adult FriendFinder collects is extremely personal in nature. When signing up for an account, customers must enter their gender, which gender they’re interested in hooking up with and what kind of sexual situations they desire. AdultFriendfinder provides for the “tell others about yourself” field include, “I like my partners to tell me what to do in the bedroom,” “I tend to be kinky” and “I’m willing to try some light bondage or blindfolds.”

Or as I call it, a slow night at home.

Just How Do Secrets Work?

Let’s take a moment and review how secrets (of any kind, work). Below is a video reminder of just how secrets get transmitted… besides having a site, like AdultFriendFinder.com, hacked.

Just Add Digital Media

“I thought about how there are two types of secrets:
the kind you want to keep in, and the kind you don’t dare to let out.”

Ally Carter, Don’t Judge a Girl by Her Cover

You know… if you want to keep your secret, don’t tell your secret – especially to your mouse and keyboard. Those typed desires and/or fetishes can end up far beyond your intended scope.

And you thought humans couldn’t keep a secret.

“If you want to keep a secret, you must also hide it from yourself.”
George Orwell, 1984
